What qualifications and experience do you have?
I am a fully qualified teacher, gaining my PGCE in 1995 from the University of Birmingham. I have 23 years classroom experience and 28 years experience of working in education. I also hold a TEFL Certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).
What about safeguarding?
I have a full DBS clearance via the update service ensuring that annual checks on my suitability to work with children are maintained. I am trained in children’s safeguarding to Level 3. What do I need?
You need 4 things: access to a computer/laptop with a webcam, access to the internet and a head set.
What ages do you work with?
I work with ages 5-16 years (Key Stage 1 -4). Upon request I can also provide tutoring for adults including English as an additional language (TEFL).
How long should a lesson be?
This is very much down to each individual but younger children (those in Key Stage 1) for example would probably be best suited to 30 minute lessons rather than the full hour.
Do I need to provide resources?
No all lessons are online. You just need a computer/laptop with internet access and a webcam. However a notebook and pen may be useful for any break out written work.
Will homework be set?
As a general rule homework is not set however it can be beneficial to practice skills learned throughout the week between weekly lessons.
How effective is 1-2-1 tutoring?
Evidence based research by the EEF (Education Endowment Fund) suggests that one to one tuition can be effective, providing approximately five additional months’ progress on average.
How much does 1-2-1 tuition cost?
Tutoring is booked on a monthly basis: £250 a month for weekly 1 hour lessons or £140 a month for weekly 30 minute lessons. The package includes one monthly written progress report and one 20 minute parental consultation.
What about group tuition?
If there is sufficient interest and pupils with similar needs, small group lessons (2-3 pupils) can be purchased. These cost £150 for weekly one hour lessons for a month and include a written progress report at the end of each month.
How do I pay for my tuition package?
An invoice will be sent to you before each month’s block of lessons. Payment must be made before the first lesson of the block/month. Payment is made via bank transfer (BACs).
What if you cancel a lesson?
If I cancel a lesson I will offer to rearrange for an alternative time convenient to you. If this is not possible the lesson will be credited to the next month.
What if we can’t make a lesson or we are late?
Refunds are not offered for missed or cancelled lessons. If more than 48 hour’s notice is given I may be able to offer you an alternative rescheduled time for 1-2-1 lessons. If you are more than 5 minutes late to a 1-2-1 lesson I will try contacting you to remind you. I will keep the lesson open for 20 minutes from the scheduled start time. If you join a lesson late, the lost time will not be made up. The lesson will finish at the scheduled time.
